Do you know why inhabitants of Mechelen are called Maneblussers?
On a misty and cold night in 1687 a man left a pub in Mechelen while it was full moon. He looked at the St. Rumboldstower and couldn’t believe his own eyes, it seemed that the tower was on fire! He immediately alarmed the local fire station and inhabitants came to help with buckets of water trying to extinguish the fire. After a while everyone realised that the tower was not on fire. It was the light of the moon in the clouds reflecting an orange glow on the tower!
